INDIANAPOLIS -- (Business Wire)
IN.gov
and Indiana
State Police (ISP) have partnered to launch the online Blue Alert
Notification website (http://in.gov/bluealerts/)
in an effort to provide Hoosiers with immediate information about
potential suspects that have harmed a member of Indiana law enforcement.
“The Blue Alert system gives the public information to actively protect
not only themselves, but empowers them to inform police of activity that
could result in the apprehension of suspects,” said Indiana State Police
Superintendent Doug Carter.
In the event a member of Indiana law enforcement is killed, seriously
injured, or missing in the line of duty, and wanted suspect information
or other investigative information is known, a “Blue Alert” may be
transmitted across not only the website, but also multiple media
channels. With input from investigating police agencies the Blue Alert
will include details that could assist the public in notifying police
with important information. This messaging could include a detailed
description of the suspect, any available images, and involved vehicles
including: license plate number, make, and model. Alerts are then
rapidly sent across multiple broadcast channels such as: the Blue Alert
website, radio stations, and television channels. Alerts remain active
until rescinded by the investigating agency.
