the Chicago City Treasurer’s Office today announced the winners of the Chicago
Small Business Online Marketing Contest.
The Small Business Online Marketing Contest awarded over $10,000 in cash
and prizes to businesses submitting winning entries in “Best Business Email
Marketing” and “Best Overall Users of Social
Media” categories, including “Rookie Awards” for those businesses
that had utilized online marketing tools for less than one year. Entries
were judged based on originality of concept, polish and appeal, clarity,
and effectiveness.
“The response to the second annual Small Business Online Marketing
Contest was tremendous, demonstrating great interest and participation
from the Chicago business community,” said Chicago City Treasurer
Stephanie D. Neely. “We’re proud to recognize this year’s winners for
their achievements, and hope that their successful campaigns will
inspire additional small businesses to leverage online tools to grow
their businesses.”

More than 130 small businesses in the City of Chicago entered the
contest, which took place between January 3 and February 29, 2012. In
addition, nearly 400 small business representatives and entrepreneurs
took part in the free educational seminars co-sponsored by Constant
Contact and the City of Chicago’s Treasurer’s Office during the contest.
The sold-out seminars covered “7 Keys to Email Marketing,” “Social Media
Made Simple,” “Supercharging Your Facebook Marketing,” and a variety of
other topics related to email and social media marketing, providing
advice and actionable information tailored to the small business
audience. The contest judging panel featured a prestigious panel of
business leaders from the Chicago area.

marketing and demonstrate just how effective online tools can be in
helping small businesses engage with their key constituents,” said Steve
