AUGUSTA, Maine -- (Business Wire)
Maine’s Department of Economic and Community Development is pleased to
announce the launch of a new online certification exam application
available to existing Code Enforcement Officers and trainees. Available
at https://www.maine.gov/online/ceoexams,
the system allows eligible Code Enforcement Officers to complete and
submit certification exams electronically. PDF certifications can then
be downloaded and printed upon completion of the required areas. The
online application was created by the Department of Economic and
Community Development, in partnership with the state’s digital
government portal provider, InforME.
The new service replaces the previous exam process, which required
physical paper exams to be completed in person and then manually graded
by a Code Enforcement administrator. Users now have the ability to
request an account and take the exams that they are required to complete
to maintain certification. Since the launch of the application, DECD has
converted many of their existing exams to the online system. Currently
seven of the 13certification exams are now offered online.
To date, 74 online exams have been submitted by the 34 active users, 15
of which have already earned certifications.
The online application considerably reduces the amount of administrative
time and cost associated with proctoring and grading physical exams.
Since the majority of exams are graded automatically, the Code
Enforcement Program is already experiencing a 75 percent reduction in
the amount of time required to facilitate exams. Currently, they are
saving eight to 13 minutes per exam, which has resulted in an 18-hour
reduction in required staff time.
“The online exam application has allowed us to modernize our processes
and save a significant amount of staff time,” commented Program
Director, Brianne Hasty. “Being able to offer our exams, which can be
completed anywhere and anytime, is a huge win for both Code Enforcement
Officers and the DECD staff.”
This service is provided at no cost to Code Enforcement Officers. New
user accounts must be requested and approved by DECD before exams may be
taken.
