AUGUSTA, Maine -- (Business Wire)
The State of Maine first adopted the concept for a self-funded
eGovernment Web portal back in 1999 beginning with the development of Maine.gov.
Fifteen years later www.Maine.gov
continues to achieve tremendous success providing new information and
online services to Maine citizens, through innovative uses of technology.
“Providing a strong Web presence to connect Maine citizens to their
government is more important than ever, as they expect transparency from
both their elected officials and the state’s agencies,” stated Governor
Paul R. LePage. “Fifteen years after implementation, Maine.gov continues
to be a valuable resource for Mainers and visitors through constant
updates and achievements in eGovernment innovation."
The Maine State Legislature enacted the Information Resource of Maine
(InforME) Electronic Access to Public Information Act on April 15, 1998,
which called for the creation of a public/private long-term partnership
to operate a portal network. Its mission - to make government
information and services available to the public electronically. The Maine.gov
Web portal is managed by Maine Information Network, LLC (MIN), the
private partner that was selected through the competitive procurement
process for the InforME Network Manager contract in 1999.
InforME is a unique state initiative -- a self-supporting portal that
provides and enhances access to public information through eGovernment
services. InforME operates the state’s official website, www.Maine.gov,
and builds online services including data searches, filings, permits,
licenses, mapping, and reporting functions.
InforME has worked in partnership with the state of Maine and municipal
agencies to implement more than 450 electronic services and process more
than 80.5 million payment transactions since 1999. Maine.gov
sets a standard of excellence for state government websites, having been
ranked nationally within the top 10 state government websites every year
since 2000 for its design, usability and online services.
“Over the past 15 years, MIN has been a tremendous eGovernment partner
to the state of Maine,” remarked Greg McNeal, chief technology officer
for the state of Maine and chair of the InforME board. “MIN has helped
evolve eGovernment in the state of Maine. The public/private partnership
has consistently produced a high quality Web presence that focuses on
usability and accessibility, enabling Maine citizens and visitors to
access information and conduct business with the state from any
location.”
The InforME network manager, MIN, entered into a second long-term,
zero-dollar contract with the state on March 14, 2008 after another
procurement process and continues to partner with the state of Maine to
manage Maine.gov and the InforME electronic services.
Maine.gov is the entry portal to more than 300,000 pages of state
government content and online services. In 2013, Maine.gov received over
47 million page views. The state of Maine website helps users stay
informed and complete government business with tools such as email
and text alerts, Facebook,
Twitter,
RSS
Feeds, multimedia, and mobile
services.
