New York spot gold leapt $133.10 Wednesday, reaching $4,062.30 by the market's close. The pundit consensus is that pressure from yields and the surging U.S. dollar flipped overnight, sparking a sharp rally in bullion -- flipped being the operative word to anyone watching Senate and House seats flip -- or was it flop -- from red to blue last evening. Gridlock is usually a bad thing the day after in the market, but not so today.

And so, the TSX Venture Exchange reclaimed 19.68 points today, closing at 814.37, while the TSX gold index soared 68.10 points to 845.37. Barrick Mining Corp. (ABX) had a good day, adding $4.14 to $56.07 on 12.11 million shares, and Equinox Gold Corp. (EQX) had a better one, adding $1.74 to $15.77 on 13.41 million shares. Even hard-to-move Franco-Nevada Corp. (FNV) had a spring in its step, adding $21.92 to $338.47 on 859,000 shares.

Benoit La Salle's Aya Gold & Silver Inc. (AYA) jumped $3.53 to $35.81 on 1.49 million shares on word of new assays from its Boumadine project in Morocco. Among the results that "confirm high-grade continuity along the Boumadine Main trend" were an 11.9-metre interval grading 1.56 grams of gold and 28 grams of silver per tonne, plus 3.3 per cent zinc, 1.3 per cent lead and modest amounts of copper and molybdenum. A second hole did nearly as well, with a 17-metre interval grading 1.69 grams of gold and 36 grams of silver per tonne, with a bit of base metals.
