The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score on Friday was an upbeat 75-72-173 as the TSX Venture Exchange fell fractionally to 531. Rough diamond prices inched higher for the second week running, according to diamantaire Paul Zimnisky's rough diamond price index. Perhaps this will be the low, perhaps not. Either way, prices are 6 per cent lower than a year ago and are 25 per cent below their peak in 2011.
Randy Turner's zombie diamond explorer, Canterra Minerals Corp. (CTM), closed unchanged at one sad cent on 80,000 shares when it last traded on Thursday. The company spent barely $23,000 on exploration in 2018 and about the same so far this year -- nearly all of it on land use and tenure charges. In fact, most of Canterra's land tenure action for the past few years has seen the company wave goodbye to its claims as they come up for renewal. One of the latest to go was King, a once promising project upon which the company, initially called Diamondex Resources Ltd., had been founded in 1999.
