Jonathan Mikula, a Georgia man awaiting sentencing for a scheme to promote a Vancouver company as "Curing Incurable Diseases and Giving Us Over 4,900% Potential Gains," has landed himself in trouble for drinking and driving. The Cobb County Sheriff's Department arrested him on June 29, 2024, on charges that included driving under the influence of alcohol. The violation is a misdemeanor, or one that carries a minor punishment.
Word of Mr. Mikula's arrest in Georgia comes about five months after he pleaded guilty to federal criminal charges in Los Angeles stemming from a scheme with Emerald Health Pharmaceuticals Inc., a company associated with Vancouver's Avtar Dhillon. The government said that he was part of a group that accepted $4.2-million in undisclosed payments from insiders to boost Emerald Health and other companies. (All figures are in U.S. dollars.) On March 12, 2024, he pleaded guilty to a charge of conspiracy to tout securities for undisclosed compensation, which carries a maximum sentence of five years.
