The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has won asset freeze orders against three Canadians and a U.S. stock tout in its case against West Vancouver's Frederick Sharp and others. The SEC claims that the group helped insiders of public companies improperly sell as much as $1-billion worth of shares through an offshore network. (All figures are in U.S. dollars.) The group's actions facilitated multiple pump-and-dumps, the government claims.

The asset freezes are contained in preliminary injunctions handed down on Friday, Oct. 15, and on Oct. 7, 2021, in federal court in Boston. They apply to accounts held by Yvonne Gasarch of Richmond, Courtney Kelln of Surrey and Jackson Friesen of Delta. Much of the money looks to be held at Canadian institutions, with the orders applying to several accounts at Vancouver brokerages Canaccord Genuity Corp., PI Financial Corp., Leede Jones Gable Inc. and Haywood Securities Inc., as well as Bank of Montreal and Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. (The banks and brokerage are not accused of any wrongdoing.)
