Power Growth Investor, in the May, 2020, issue, says buy Village Farms International Inc., recently $3.87. This is the first time it has recommended the stock. Village Farms is one of the largest and longest-operating greenhouse growers in North America. Already known for its tomatoes, peppers and other vegetables, the company recently expanded into cannabis, seeking to take advantage of better margins and higher revenue potential. It is currently growing cannabis through its 58.7-per-cent-owned Pure Sunfarms subsidiary in British Columbia. As well, it is looking to move into the U.S. market for hemp-derived CBD (cannabidiol, a non-intoxicating cannabis compound with medical uses). Power Growth approves of these moves, saying Village Farms is "on the path to higher sales and, eventually, profit." For context, Village Farms lost $7.2-million or 14 cents a share in the quarter ended Dec. 31, 2019, compared with a loss of $2.4-million or five cents a share in the same period a year earlier. Revenue dropped to $33.1-million from $38.8-million as the company reduced its vegetable shipments and shifted into cannabis production. Power Growth is optimistic that Village Farms will find its footing. The stock is a "speculative buy."
