The Successful Investor, in the July, 2020, issue, says buy Telus Corp., recently $24. The Investor previously said buy 34 times from August, 1998, to January, 2020, at prices ranging from $9.70 to $65 (the stock split 2 for 1 on April 17, 2013, and again on March 18, 2020). Assuming a $1,000 investment for each of the 34 buys, the $34,000 position is now worth $80,784. With 10.28 million customers, Telus is Canada's third-largest wireless phone carrier (after Rogers and BCE). It also has a wireline division with 2.0 million Internet customers and 1.2 million television customers. Over the past few years, Telus has invested heavily in its wireless and high-speed Internet networks. These investments are becoming increasingly important given the COVID-19 pandemic and sharp rise in the number of people working from home. The Investor says the strength of Telus's networks is reflected in its share price: Telus's stock has held its value since the start of 2020, even as the S&P/TSX Composite Index has fallen 7.0 per cent. This also reflects Telus's sturdy balance sheet and generous 4.9-per-cent dividend yield. "We expect this long-time favourite of ours will continue to outperform," concludes the Investor. Buy.
