New York spot gold carried on with its rally Thursday, adding another $89.80 to $3,171.80. The TSX Venture Exchange retreated, dropping 6.28 points to 592.38. The TSX gold index nevertheless did well, adding another 16.65 points to 458.01. Most Canadian gold miners gained ground today. Iamgold Corp. (IMG) added 43 cents to $9.62 on 9.75 million shares, while Calibre Mining Inc. (CXB) rose 15 cents to $2.99 on 9.09 million shares. Lundin Gold Inc. (LUG) also did well, adding $2.16 to $48.01 on 906,000 shares.
Among the stragglers were those with a hefty copper component to their production -- copper not yet being the market's new gold it seems. Capstone Copper Corp. (CS) fell 51 cents to $5.58 on 9.45 million shares today, while Ero Copper Corp. (ERO) shed $1.16 to $13.89 on 910,000 shares and Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (IVN) dropped $1.23 to $10.92 on 4.84 million shares.
