New York spot gold lost $5.90 to close at $2,757.10 on Wednesday, while the TSX Venture Exchange added 4.16 points to 613.59 and the TSX gold index rose 2.64 points to 377.91. Most gold miners listed in Canada gained ground today. SSR Mining Inc. (SSRM) rose 24 cents to $11.25 on 539,000 shares while GoGold Resources Inc. (GGD) rose five cents to $1.42 on 2.91 million shares.
Shane Williams's West Red Lake Gold Mines Ltd. (WRLG) lost one cent to 62 cents on 773,000 shares on word of "positive results" from its 2024 regional surface mapping and geochemical sampling program at its Madsen project, near Red Lake in Northwestern Ontario. The work, the company cheers, focused on the Confederation assemblage of rocks -- a mostly unexplored geological area on the property until now. The Confederation rocks, however, host the Great Bear project, 24 kilometres southeast of Madsen, that is now being worked by Kinross Gold Corp. (K: $16.05).
