New York spot gold jumped another $19.50 to close at $2,690.30 Friday while the TSX Venture Exchange fell 6.66 points to 608.42 and the TSX gold index dipped 1.17 points to 359.39. Most Canadian gold miners lost some ground today although Lundin Gold Inc. (LUG) bucked the trend, adding 97 cents to $33.84 on 786,000 shares. On the other hand, Taseko Mines Ltd. (TKO) fell 23 cents to $3.03 on 1.24 million shares and K92 Mining Inc. (KNT) dropped 36 cents to $9.93 on one million shares.
Gerald Panneton's Gold Terra Resource Corp. (YGT) added one-half cent to seven cents on 141,000 shares on word it has begun a drilling program targeting the Campbell Shear zone on its Con Mine project near Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories. This is a deep drilling program that will see several wedges completed off a master hole that the company had drilled last year to a depth of 3,002 metres. The plan, the company says, calls for "as many wedges as possible," as Gold Terra looks to evaluate the zone 600 metres beneath the old Robertson shaft, both updip and laterally.
