New York spot gold rose $2.80 to close at $2,635.80 on Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 8.13 points to 607.91 while the TSX gold index dipped 1.81 points to 357.51. New Found Gold Corp. (NFG) had one of its better days of late, rebounding 15 cents to $2.48 on 712,000 shares. There was no news, but then good news has as often as not sent the company's stock lower this year.

Endeavour Silver Corp. (EDR) lost 18 cents to $5.81 on 1.67 million shares today on news. Endeavour has placed 15.83 million shares at $4.60 (U.S.) -- about $6.45 in Canadian currency -- raking in the $72.8-million (U.S.) it set out to raise a week ago. Word of the pending sale had sent Endeavour's stock down 61 cents to $6.28, and it has been edging lower since then. A share sold for nearly $8 in late October.

Garrett Macdonald's Maritime Resources Corp. (MAE) added one-half cent to six cents on 195,000 shares on word it has more assays from surface sampling at its Hammerdown gold project in the Baie Verte area of Newfoundland. The sampling tested five veins on the project, across two trenching areas. The work, the company cheers, "confirms exceptional grade hosted in a system of stacked sulphide-rich quartz veins."
