New York spot gold regained $7.40 to close at $2,631.70 on Tuesday. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 3.15 points to 599.78 while the TSX gold index added 4.64 points to 359.32. Taseko Mines Ltd. (TKO) helped lead the retreat, as it fell seven cents to $2.80 on 1.13 million shares despite a one-week silence. Orezone Gold Corp. (ORE) has been quiet for a few weeks, but it rose seven cents to 67 cents on three million shares today.
Frank Callaghan's Golden Cariboo Resources Ltd. (GCC) lost two cents to 18.5 cents on 103,000 shares on word that it has eyeballed multiple occurrences of visible gold in core from its latest drill hole into the Halo zone, at the Quesnelle project in central British Columbia. Assays are still pending -- indeed, the hole is still in progress, having passed through a depth of 327 metres -- but the company is already applauding the extensive quartz-carbonate -- more or less -- pyrite veins encountered.
