New York spot gold rose $1.10 Monday, closing at $2,736.60. The TSX Venture Exchange dropped 0.68 point to 603.27 while the TSX gold index fell 1.50 points to 375.64. Canadian listed gold miners were a mixed bag today. Jaguar Mining Inc (JAG) rose four cents to $4.38 on 147,000 shares despite continuing a three-week silence. Artemis Gold Inc. (ARTG) was strong, as it added 47 cents to $14.50 on 156,000 shares while also continuing a three-week silence. Centerra Gold Inc. (CG) was down 25 cents to $8.85 on 3.88 million shares, continuing a decline that began nearly two weeks ago at $10.51.

Cal Everett's Liberty Gold Corp. (LGD) rose one-half cent to 33 cents on 1.09 million shares on word it is plodding along the stone-dotted path leading toward permitting of its Black Pine oxide gold project in Idaho. (Or, as Mr. Everett, chief executive officer, and his crew phrase it -- they are "pleased to announce the achievement of three important milestones in the permitting process" for the project.) Those three yawners include a memorandum of understanding and a cost recovery agreement between the company and the U.S. Forest Service, as well as the selection of an approved third party contractor to handle the environmental process.
