New York spot gold fell $29.30 Friday, closing at $2,644.20. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 8.65 points to 585.68 while the TSX gold index dropped 8.62 points to 376.22. Most Canadian listed gold miners were in retreat today. Those doing so quietly included Oceanagold Corp. (OGC), which lost 18.5 cents to $3.745 on 1.74 million shares, and Fortuna Mining Corp. (FVI), which shed 37 cents to $6.50 on 1.11 million shares.
Adrian Coates's Thor Explorations Ltd. (THX) lost two cents to 31 cents on 742,000 shares and was as low as 29.5 cents at one point. Mr. Coates, the company's chairman, transferred 105,000 shares from his trading account into his individual savings account, completing the switcheroo yesterday at 33 cents per share. The United Kingdom-based Mr. Coates still holds all his 1.8 million shares, so it is unclear what impact shuffling stock into what Canadians call a tax-free savings account had on the market price today.
