New York spot gold jumped $23.10 to $1,951.20 on Wednesday. The TSX-V rose 3.66 points to 629.83 while the TSX gold index rose 5.20 points to 309.77. Canadian gold miners moved higher today after a slow start. Centerra Gold Corp. (CG) led the way, adding 46 cents to $9 on $1.37 million shares. There was no news to account for the move, as Centerra has been silent for the past two weeks.
It might be news better left for a Friday afternoon, but then, word that the United States Environmental Protection Agency issued a final determination to veto mining of the Pebble project in Alaska was hardly new news, since the EPA had previously issued a proposed determination earlier and the environmentalists have been huffing and puffing about the project for years. And so, the Pebble project proponent, Ronald Thiessen's Northern Dynasty Minerals Ltd. (NDM) lost only 3.5 cents to 28.5 cents on 1.8 million shares following the news Tuesday afternoon and it rebounded 1.5 cents to 30 cents on 487,000 shares today.
