New York spot gold jumped $23.40 Thursday, ending the day at $1,840.40. The TSX-V did well, rebounding 14.41 points to 705.58 today while the TSX gold index added 12.85 points to 300.53. Most Canadian gold miners regained some lost ground today. Prolific Egyptian gold miner, Centamin PLC (CEE), was a laggard, dropping four cents to $1.39 on 192,000 shares despite an absence of news.
On the other hand, Iamgold Corp. (IMG) rose 25 cents to $2.92 on 4.32 million shares despite a two-week silence while New Found Gold Corp. (NFG) moved upward for the third day in a row since closing at $6.95 on Monday, when it revealed its first quarter results. The company's last important news came two weeks ago, with word of a 2.15-metre hit averaging 275 grams of gold per tonne in a new discovery at its Queensway project in north-central Newfoundland. New Found added 64 cents to $7.86 on 345,000 shares today.
