Another gold rally has run out of steam. New York spot gold, which nosed above $1,872 last week, dropped $39.10 today to $1,805.90. The TSX Venture Exchange followed suit, losing 26.97 points, ending the day at 966.36 while the TSX gold index lost 4.32 points to 294.68. Most Canadian gold miners moved lower today, although Gran Colombia Gold Corp (GCM) managed a seven-cent rise to $5.50 on 498,000 shares. Victoria Gold Corp. (VGCX), which lost 56 cents to $16.87 on 265,000 shares, and Endeavour Mining PLC (EDV), which shed 74 cents to $32.35 on 1.32 million shares, helped lead the retreat.

Joseph Conway and Frazer Bourchier's beleaguered Harte Gold Corp. (HRT) lost one-quarter cent to two cents on 6.33 million shares on word that BNP Paribas has assigned its rights and obligations as lender under the terms of a credit and forbearance agreements to Australia-based Silver Lake Resources Ltd. Silver Lake says that it "intends to work cooperatively with Harte Gold and its stakeholders to deliver an outcome that will provide the best opportunity to realize the full potential of the Sugar Zone mine and associated land package."
