New York spot gold relapsed $28.20 Friday, falling to $1,767.90. The TSX Venture Exchange added 12.24 points, closing at 937.67, while the TSX gold index fell 2.68 points to 281.74. Most Canadian gold miners followed bullion lower today. Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX) fell 57 cents to $23.66 on 7.7 million shares on word late yesterday that it has completed its purchase of the remaining 40-per-cent interest in the South Arturo mine held by I-80 Gold Corp. Newmont Corp. (NGT) lost 94 cents to $70.54 on 275,000 shares without benefit of news today.

Bryan Slusarchuk's Fosterville South Exploration Ltd. (FSX) fell two cents to $1.16 on 194,000 shares on word that it has drilled an 8.6-metre interval averaging 5.22 grams of gold per tonne from the first hole completed at its Beechwood project in Victoria, Australia. The interval was buoyed by a 3.6-metre zone that averaged 10.72 grams of gold per tonne.
