New York spot gold dipped $4.10 Wednesday, closing at $1,888.50. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 2.28 points to 976.84 while the TSX gold index added 0.02 point to 322.26. Pan American Silver Corp. (PAAS) helped lead the advancers, as it rose 73 cents to $38.23 on 680,000 shares. Endeavour Mining Corp. (EDV) went the other way, dropping 59 cents to $28.95 on 1.19 million shares.
Kevin Bullock's Anaconda Mining Inc. (ANX) rose three cents to 83 cents on 282,000 shares on word that it has drilled a 10-metre interval averaging 9.47 grams of gold per tonne at its Goldboro project in Nova Scotia, a hit aided substantially by a 0.5-metre stretch that averaged 124.5 grams per tonne. The assays, from a 32-hole program drilled earlier this year, produced several other hits spanning several metres, but with lesser grades, and several other higher-grade hits, but over narrow intervals. A second hole did yield 5.21 grams per tonne over 5.5 metres, buoyed by a 0.5-metre interval that averaged 43.8 grams per tonne.
