New York spot gold added $14.80 Wednesday, ending the day at $1,793.60. The TSX Venture Exchange tagged along, gaining 14.15 points to close at 928.91 while the TSX gold index rose 3.58 points to 320.04. Most Canadian gold miners moved higher with bullion today. Victoria Gold Corp. (VGCX) added 18 cents to $15.88 on 212,000 shares, while Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd. (KL) rose 78 cents to $49.06 on 1.38 million shares.
Scott Rasenberg and Larry Phillips's California Gold Mining Inc. (CGM) had a good day. It leapt to 23 cents, ending the day up three cents to 14 cents on 1.88 million shares, on word that Kim Tyler's Stratabound Minerals Corp. (SB) is offering one share for each California share, a ratio that implied a 22.3-cent per share offer and a 105-per-cent premium based on the last month of trading. (That was then; now, with Stratabound's stock falling one cent to 18 cents on 105,000 shares following the news, the offer is not quite as rosy.)
