New York spot gold added $7.80 Tuesday, ending the day at $1,778.80. The TSX Venture Exchange went the other way, dropping 14.41 points to close at 914.76 while the TSX gold index rose 5.32 points to 316.46. There were hats and horns aplenty at Franco-Nevada Corp. (FNV), which added $3.91 to $175.12 on 524,000 shares. Oceanagold Corp. (OGC) also gained ground, rising 11 cents to $2.31 on 3.39 million shares. Shareholders of Gran Colombia Gold Corp. (GCM) were not as pleased: It lost five cents to $5.51 on 373,000 shares today.
Nav Dhaliwal and Jason Billan's Gatling Exploration Inc. (GTR) leapt to an intraday high of 52 cents before ending the day up 2.75 cents to 48 cents on 884,000 shares. The move followed word that it has drilled a 200.7-metre interval averaging 1.5 grams of gold per tonne at the Fernland deposit on its Larder gold project in Northern Ontario. Assays from this new drill hole included a 23.7-metre subinterval averaging 6.1 grams per tonne, a hit that began within 3.3 metres of surface. A deeper subinterval, at a downhole depth of 160 metres, returned 11.6 grams of gold per tonne over four metres.
