New York spot gold regained $15.40 Tuesday, ending the day at $1,743.90. The TSX Venture Exchange added 2.71 points, closing at 963.96 while the TSX gold index rose 4.75 points to 301.04. Most Canadian gold miners moved higher today, with Oceanagold Corp. (OGC) leading the way with a 13-cent gain to $2.03 on 2.38 million shares. Pan American Silver Corp. (PAAS) also did well, jumping $1.68 to $40.95 on 582,000 shares. Neither company has had news in a while, but one that did was Victoria Gold Corp. (VGCX). It added just eight cents to $12.98 on 132,000 shares on word that it produced 26,759 ounces of gold at its Eagle mine in Yukon -- a bit more than it had been predicting, but not quite as much as investors may have been expecting.
Dr. Tony Harwood's Montero Mining and Exploration Ltd. (MON) disappointed the market with assays from 10 holes drilled into the A target at its Isabella gold and silver project in Chile. Montero, which hit 95 cents in January amid its Isabella drilling and traded at 80 cents in mid-March as investors awaited the results, fell to an intraday low of 34.5 cents before ending the day down 24 cents to 38 cents on 1.22 million shares.
