New York spot gold fell $5.90 to $1,849.10 on Wednesday, while the TSX Venture Exchange index managed a 1.63-point gain to 900.24 and the TSX gold index fell 3.44 points to 314.16. Oceanagold Corp. (OGC) was among the gainers, adding four cents to $2.38 on 3.34 million shares. So was Centerra Gold Inc. (CG), which added 23 cents to $14.51 on 1.37 million shares. Neither company had news today, nor did Pan American Silver Corp. (PAAS), which shed $2.56 to $40.67 on 1.31 million shares.
Chris Taylor's Great Bear Resources Inc. (GBR) fell 22 cents to $14.40 on 136,000 shares on word that it has drilled an 11-metre zone averaging 16.56 grams of gold per tonne at its Dixie project near Red Lake in Northwestern Ontario. The new assays cover 22 holes spanning a 1.2-kilometre-long strike length of the LP Fault zone, and high-grade hits abounded, with plenty of lengthy intervals topping 10 grams of gold per tonne. Great Bear has now drilled and assayed 220 holes along the zone, and it expects to have 400 completed by the end of this year.
