New York spot gold fell $6.40 to $1,844.60 on Monday, driving an 11.38-point drop in the TSX Venture Exchange index, which ended the day at 885.33. The TSX gold index fared better, dropping 4.06 points to 317.04. Victoria Gold Corp. (VGCX) nevertheless had a good day, adding 47 cents to $12.88 on 467,000 shares. The company said last week that it had produced 116,600 ounces of gold last year, but today's trading is a rebound from Friday's 91-cent drop. Eldorado Gold Corp. (EDV) went the other way, dropping 70 cents to $15.97 on 1.14 million shares.
Collin Kettell and Craig Roberts's New Found Gold Corp. (NFG) gained four cents to $4.15 on 509,000 shares on word that it has found more gold at Queensway in northeastern Newfoundland. The new assays, from the Keats zone, included one hole that returned a 10.4-metre interval averaging 22.5 grams per tonne within 12 metres of surface and a second, richer zone that produced 31.4 grams per tonne across 15.9 metres at a depth of just 45 metres.
