New York spot gold rose $22.10 to $1,736.70 on Wednesday. The TSX-V added 2.59 points to 567.38 while the TSX gold index jumped 11.74 points to 323.24. Most Canadian gold miners advanced today after a shaky start. Premier Gold Mines Ltd. (PG) down 12 cents early, ended the day up three cents to $2.08 on 1.61 million shares. New Gold Inc. (NGD), which said today that it is selling $400-million (U.S.) in senior notes, leapt 20 cents to $1.99 on 7.58 million shares.
Darren Koningen's Minera Alamos Inc. (MAI) gained 3.5 cents to 48 cents on 1.96 million shares on word that it has drilled a 202.7-metre zone averaging 0.51 gram of gold per tonne at its Santana gold project in Sonora, Mexico. That hole, which ended in mineralization, was drilled 100 metres southwest of one that produced 0.6 gram per tonne over 247.9 metres. The prior hole, drilled in the latest program and assayed in late April, also ended in mineralization.
