New York spot gold dropped $20.90 to $1,727.50 on Thursday. The TSX-V fell 2.12 points to 531.81 while the TSX gold index dropped 8.68 points to 350.95. Canadian gold miners were in full retreat today, save for Premier Gold Mines Ltd. (PG), which added one cent to $2 on 1.89 million shares. New Gold Inc. (NGD) dropped five cents to $1.58 on 3.18 million shares while Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX) fell $1.24 to $36.61 on 8.55 million shares.
Philippe Cloutier's Cartier Resources Inc. (ECR), up one-half cent to 19.5 cents on 757,000 shares, has received assays of up to 6.7 grams of gold per tonne over 16 metres from drilling at the Chimo mine property, 45 kilometres east of Val d'Or in Quebec. The lengthy hit was bolstered by a four-metre subinterval that averaged 20.8 grams per tonne. The hit occurred at a depth of 1,371 metres, some 500 metres beneath the new zones in the East sector of the project.
