The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score on Thursday was a mediocre 86-101-113 as the TSX Venture Exchange added seven points to 881. Gungnir Resources Inc. (GUG), a busy nickel explorer in Sweden, jumped 7.5 cents to 22.5 cents on 8.14 million shares. Gungnir leapt four cents to 16 cents on 7.35 million shares Tuesday but lost one of them yesterday as another 3.5 million shares traded. The rally follows word that a hole at Lappvattnet returned 2.62 per cent nickel, 0.13 per cent copper and 0.05 per cent cobalt across 5.65 metres.
Chad Ulansky and Chuck Fipke's Metalex Ventures Ltd. (MTX) -- a diamond explorer that has been as motionless as a cadaver for the past decade -- lost one-half cent to three cents on 80,000 shares. The company doggedly lists several diamond adventures in Africa, and a few more dotted across central Canada, but none have seen much work since the early 2010s. There has been an encouraging shift over the past year, as Metalex put new effort into its James Bay project in northwestern Quebec and some at its Kyle Lake property in Northern Ontario.
