The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score on Tuesday was a positive 111-81-108 as the TSX Venture Exchange rose two points to 963, while polished diamond prices were flat. NextSource Materials Inc. (NEXT) was a busy trader, dropping one-half cent to 5.5 cents on 2.08 million shares. The company is inching along toward building a graphite mine at Molo, in Madagascar.
Samer Khalaf and Terry Tucker's Southstone Minerals Ltd. (SML) closed unchanged at 6.5 cents on 5,000 shares. The company mined another smattering of diamonds from Oena, its alluvial project in South Africa, during the three-month period ended Feb. 28, 2021. The company's contract operation produced 94 gems weighing a total of 144.24 carats, which sold for just under $160,000 (U.S.), or about $1,105 (U.S.) per carat. A few larger and higher-quality gems accounted for most of the value. The top stone, an 8.47-carat diamond, sold for nearly $30,800 (U.S.), just over $3,600 (U.S.) per carat, while the top six diamonds fetched over $73,000, about 45 per cent of the parcel value.
