The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score on Tuesday was a bright 116-78-106 as the TSX Venture Exchange rose 13 points to 898 and polished diamond prices were flat. Craig Scherba's NextSource Materials Inc. (NEXT) had been flatlined at four cents for a year before doubling on increased volume last fall. The company had been promoting its Molo graphite project in Madagascar for years, but it has fallen uncharacteristically silent for the past year. Nevertheless, it was a busy trader again today, closing unchanged at eight cents on 2.54 million shares.
Ken MacNeill's Star Diamond Corp. (DIAM) has the results from the 10th and final trench cutter hole dug deep into its mammoth Star kimberlite by Rio Tinto Exploration Canada Inc., its co-venturer on the FalCon project in central Saskatchewan. The hole produced 889.3 tonnes of Early Joli Fou (EJF) kimberlite that in turn revealed 172.14 carats of diamonds, or 19.4 carats per hundred tonnes. As usual, the parcel included some large gems, with 14 stones larger than one carat being recovered Those gems, weighing 40.5 carats, accounted for 23.5 per cent of the entire EJF parcel.
