The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score on Thursday was a mediocre 74-90-136 as the TSX Venture Exchange fell two points to 740 while polished diamond prices added 0.1 per cent. HPQ Silicon Resources Inc. (HPQ), a 72-cent stock in midsummer but just 39.5 cents on Wednesday, reclaimed 3.5 cents to 44.5 cents on 2.9 million shares today. There was nothing new -- but plenty of old news to regurgitate -- according to Bernard Tourillon, president and chief executive officer.
Patrick Power and Buddy Doyle's Arctic Star Exploration Corp. (ADD), unchanged at 3.5 cents on 143,000 shares, has sold nearly 18 million shares at 2.5 cents, raising just under $450,000 for work at its Timantti diamond project in Finland, just west of the Archangelsk region of Russia. Timantti was big news when the company acquired it three years ago, and Arctic Star has had success scraping away overburden and finding kimberlite bodies. Still, Mr. Power, president and CEO for what seems forever, and Mr. Doyle, his vice-president of exploration for the past 16 years, have bigger hopes for a riskier play elsewhere.
