The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score on Monday was a pleasant 96-66-138 as the TSX Venture Exchange rose nine points to 608. HPQ Silicon Resources Inc. (HPQ) remained a busy trader, gaining one cent to 22 cents on 950,000 shares. The stock had been flatlined near 7.5 cents for the past year, but trading perked up at the end of May and it got to 25 cents last week. The company is developing high-purity silicon -- the graphite killer, it cheers -- for lithium-ion batteries.
Ranjeet Sundher's Brigadier Gold Ltd. (BRG) jumped 23 cents to 28 cents on 2.07 million shares Friday, its first day of trading since mid-May. The halt was called when the company acquired an option on the Killala Lake South diamond project, northwest of Marathon in Northern Ontario, from local prospector, Rudolf Wahl. Immediate beneficiaries of the big jump are the buyers of 14 million shares that Brigadier sold at five cents this spring. The cash, says Mr. Sundher, president and chief executive officer, is for property payments and an initial work program on the property.
