The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score on Wednesday was an upbeat 97-68-135 as the TSX Venture Exchange rose six points to 533 while polished diamond prices reclaimed 0.15 per cent. Dermot Desmond and Stuart Brown's Mountain Province Diamonds Inc. (MPVD) dropped one cent to 32.5 cents on 612,000 shares. The company is still in COVID-19 sick bay, but so far, it is better off than Dominion Diamond, its big rival to the north, which is on life support.
Sean Roosen's Osisko Gold Royalties Ltd. (OR) down 22 cents to $14.53 on 1.06 million shares, is probably regretting its foray into diamonds. The company acquired a 9.6-per-cent diamond stream on the Renard mine in 2017, when it paid $1.13-billion in cash and stock for 74 royalties and streams held by Orion Mine Finance Group. (In 2014, Orion had pledged a $250-million (U.S.) investment in exchange for the stream. In exchange, Orion was to get $50 (U.S.) per carat from Renard.)
