Richardson GMP Ltd. has asked that the courts dismiss a lawsuit filed by Murray Bockhold, who is seeking $1.5-million over interference with his employment relationship. The firm says that it is plain and obvious that the lawsuit has no hope of success. Mr. Bockhold is seeking to hold Richardson GMP responsible for his firing by another firm, CIBC World Markets Inc.
The request from Richardson GMP comes in response to a lawsuit that Mr. Bockhold filed in the Supreme Court of British Columbia on June 1, 2020. Mr. Bockhold complained that he lost his job at CIBC World Markets in 2018 after complaints to his superiors that originated at Richardson GMP. Among other things, Richardson GMP complained about Mr. Bockhold's part in a regulatory matter that involved a former Richardson GMP employee. (Mr. Bockhold had attended a hearing held by the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada and had asked IIROC to take appropriate enforcement action against Richardson GMP.)
