The B.C. Securities Commission has imposed fines totalling $55,000 over disclosure failures stemming from advertising by Stock Social Inc., a company run by West Vancouver's Kyle Johnston. The BCSC claimed that Stock Social sent out advertising disguised as objective, journalistic content. Missing from that material was any mention that the companies had paid for its dissemination, the BCSC said.
The penalties are contained in three settlement agreements that the BCSC released on Tuesday, Sept. 20. The settlements impose $10,000 fines on three company officers and a $25,000 fine on one company. Those accepting the fines include MGX Minerals Inc. and its president, Jared Lazerson. Also accepting fines are Phivida Holdings Inc. president John-David Belfontaine and ImagineAR Inc. adviser Chad McMillan.
The sanctions stem from advertising that Stock Social performed for the companies between August, 2016, and March, 2018. According to the BCSC, the material went out through several websites, generally written in the style of a news article. It was designed to look and read like objective journalistic content.

proper journalism? LNG stories by reporters across Canada, and NOT 1 of them knew that Fortis LNG facility at Tilbury is in operation, AND the roof is up on both tanks, means they full of LNG to be shipped. So what is proper journalism?
