New York spot gold rose $15.10 to $1,730.70 on Thursday. The TSX-V rose another 4.85 points to 498.26 while the TSX gold index added 11.25 points to 356.65. Kinross Gold Corp. (K) was strong, adding 41 cents to $11.12 on 12.16 million shares thanks to some cheerful press coverage. So was Alio Gold Inc. (ALO), which jumped nine cents to $1.20 on 304,000 shares. Alio is looking to merge with Argonaut Gold Inc. (AR), which added 14 cents to $1.85 on 2.77 million shares today.
Tim Termuende's Taiga Gold Corp. (TGC), up two cents to 17 cents on 584,000 shares, has received assays of up to 13.74 grams of gold per tonne over 2.29 metres at its Fisher property in Northern Saskatchewan. The 31-hole drill program tested four areas on the project and high-grade gold turned up in three of them. More encouragement could be on its way, as assays for eight of the holes remain pending.
