New York spot lost $18.40 Friday, ending the day at $1,838.80. The TSX-V rose 0.83 point to 640.38 while the TSX gold misplaced another 1.59 points to 288.56. Most Canadian gold miners drifted lower with bullion again today, although with Karora Resources Inc. (KRR) it was more of a surge, as it dropped 16 cents to $3.93 on 1.68 million shares. Franco-Nevada Corp. (FNV) was stronger today. It rose 39 cents to $181.03 on 1.69 million shares.
Gold promoters were uncharacteristically quiet even for a summer Friday, but a few cheered recent financing activities. Greg Johnson and Scott Petsel's Metallic Minerals Corp. (MMG) rose one-half cent to 39.5 cents on 77,000 shares on word that it has sold another 846,000 flow-through shares and 625,000 regular shares, all at 42 cents, raising $617,820. Mr. Johnson, chairman and chief executive officer, and Mr. Petsel, president, let the closing pass without comment, but much of the cash will find its way into the hands of its exploration crew.
