The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Monday was a pleasant 115-77-118 as the TSX Venture Exchange added seven points to 624. Ewan Mason's Star Diamond Corp. (DIAM) was one of the unchanged, closing at nine cents on 107,000 shares, but it has been leaving no stone unturned in its quest for value under Mr. Mason, the company's chairman and interim-for-now president and chief executive officer. Star now has diamond valuations from four pipes at its Buffalo Hills project in Northern Alberta. (Star shares the project -- for now at least -- with Randy Turner's Canterra Diamond Corp. (CTM), but that company abandoned diamonds for gold several years ago.)

The new valuations show the puny-grade K6 kimberlite has the best appraised diamond value, $104 (U.S.) per carat for a 16.7-carat parcel, and the best modeled diamond value at $185 (U.S.) per carat. The 69.3 carats of diamonds recovered from the larger, better tested and double-the-grade K14 pipe were appraised at just $54 (U.S.) per carat but were modeled at $160 (U.S.) per carat, while 12.4 carats of diamonds from the tiny but far richer K252 pipe were appraised at $73 (U.S.) per carat and modeled at $140 (U.S.) per carat.
