The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score on Thursday was a positive 98-79-133 as the TSX Venture Exchange rose nine points to 616 while polished diamond prices continued to edge lower. Lithium Americas Corp. (LAC) rose $1.52 to $30.56 on 1.03 million shares. Jonathan Evans, president and chief executive officer, was busy cutting ribbons this week at the company's new lithium technical development centre in Nevada, home to Thacker Pass, one of its advanced lithium projects.
Dermot Desmond and Mark Wall's Mountain Province Diamonds Inc. (MPVD) lost 1.5 cents to 48.5 cents on 281,000 shares. The company has had drilling success immediately northwest of the Hearne open pit at its Gahcho Kue mine, delineating an extension to the irregularly-shaped pipe. The company cheers success in "over 60 per cent of 14 holes completed to date" -- by which it means nine holes hit kimberlite. The intercepts, the company says, ranged from 24.3 metres to 114.5 metres, with the kimberlite encountered resembling the rock within the main pipe.
