The Globe and Mail reports in its Thursday edition that there were valid critiques of Kamala Harris's pitch to the American public. The Globe's guest columnist Kevin Yin writes that none should, however, have driven those invested in the U.S. private sector and the welfare of Americans to support Donald Trump. The fact that many business leaders did so deserves scrutiny and condemnation.
These are respected executives and founders whose intelligence and contributions Mr. Yin acknowledges, but is shocked by their conclusions in this election. He is referring to Tesla chief executive officer Elon Musk, who has supported Mr. Trump and his election conspiracies; Blackstone CEO Stephen Schwarzman, who endorsed Trump despite his insurrectionist comments; Marc Andreessen, a former lifelong Democrat who donated millions to Trump; and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who overturned Washington Post policy by not endorsing a candidate right before the paper was set to support Ms. Harris. Mr. Yin says even a cynical, purely profit-driven businessman should have supported Ms. Harris. Even a hawkish conservative voter should have supported Ms. Harris. Mr. Yin says Mr. Trump is not a responsible steward of the economy or foreign policy.
