The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday, April 16, edition that RBC Dominion Securities analyst Darko Mihelic believes that the current environment is "clearly not ideal" for Canadian life insurance companies. The Globe's David Leeder writes in the Eye On Equities column that Mr. Mihelic anticipates that there will be pressure on earnings and capital for the remainder of 2025, particularly if market volatility persists and trade wars intensify. While he thinks it is too early to make significant changes to his forward earnings estimates, Mr. Mihelic cut his first quarter core earnings per share projections by an average of 2 per cent to reflect several factors, particularly weather and wildfire losses, reflecting an average 4-per-cent decline sequentially and 11-per-cent year-over-year increase for the group. He says, "Our tracked funds suggest that average retail AUM growth will be mixed for the group and we expect net retail outflows for all the lifecos in our coverage." Mr. Mihelic rates iA Financial "sector perform," with a $141 share target. Analysts on average target the shares at $143.75. The Globe reported on Feb. 26 that TD rated iA Financial "buy." It was then worth $131.99.
