Frederick Sharp, the West Vancouver man accused of helping with pump-and-dumps on the U.S. markets that produced $1-billion in gains, complains that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has unfairly obtained privileged communications. (All figures are in U.S. dollars.) The SEC is pursuing Mr. Sharp for a scheme in which he allowed insiders of several companies to secretly sell millions of shares on the U.S. markets. Among other things, the SEC cited him for a secret communications system that he employed.
Mr. Sharp has yet to answer the SEC's case, but he is defending a related matter in the Supreme Court of British Columbia in which the SEC is seeking an asset freeze order. To that end, he filed a response at the Vancouver courthouse on April 21, 2023, complaining that the SEC improperly obtained privileged communications. He describes the SEC's actions as "high handed and oppressive" and says that they warrant the judge terminating the proceeding.
