Mr. Randy Dewey reports
BAYLIN TECHNOLOGIES ANNOUNCES ITS SPECIALIZED C-BAND 5G FILTER IS AVAILABLE FOR IMMEDIATE SHIPMENT
Baylin Technologies Inc.'s wholly owned subsidiary, Alga Microwave Inc., has released a specialized filter to prevent interference from 5G base stations that are in the proximity of C-band ground terminals. The filter design has been completed and is now available for the market. The application for this product is vast and applicable for both the satellite communications market and the wireless telecommunications market. The integration of Alga with the broader Baylin group has yielded some interesting benefits that are now being applied to the 5G market.
Randy Dewey, president and chief executive officer of Baylin Technologies Inc., explains: "Traditionally, C-band (3.8 to 4.2 gigahertz) is used for satellite services, radar and microwave links. With the introduction of 5G networks, these C-band frequencies will now be shared with a wider range of services. The resulting interference signals can be powerful enough to saturate the sensitive C-band satellite receiving systems which may result in total loss of service."
Certain millimetre-wave 5G frequencies may interfere with C-band, which is a frequency range used predominately for satellite downlinks that are an integral part of many broadcast supply chains, radio altimeter and wireless avionics intra-communications. The latter two systems are essential to flight safety. Alga has designed a filter that will clear portions of the C-band spectrum to support the growth of mobile data and the introduction of 5G services in the United States and around the world.
According to Northern Sky Research, commercial satellite ground equipment revenues are expected to increase from $12.3-billion (U.S.) in 2017 to $15.7-billion (U.S.) by 2027, representing a 2.5-per-cent CAGR (compound annual growth rate). This revenue forecast is based on ground equipment unit shipments growing from 125 million units in 2017 to 155 million units in 2027, representing a 2.2-per-cent CAGR, with an upside scenario as high as 200 million units, representing 4.8-per-cent CAGR.
