New York spot gold fell $11.60 to $1,492.40 on Monday. The TSX Venture Exchange dipped 2.64 points to 556.12 while the TSX Gold Index lost 1.66 points to 244.14. Most Canadian gold miners lost ground today. Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TXG) led the retreat. It dropped 78 cents to $17.27 on 784,000 shares. Premier Gold Mines Ltd. (PG) was off as well, dropping six cents to $1.85 on 707,000 shares.
James Greig and John Williamson's Benchmark Metals Inc. (BNCH), up 5.5 cents to 42 cents on 2.22 million shares, has received assays of up to 132.5 grams of gold and 8,650 grams of silver per tonne over 0.9 metre from the Phoenix zone at its Lawyers project in northwestern British Columbia. The hit, from the first hole of a 2019 drill program, occurred at a depth of 131 metres, within an otherwise weakly mineralized zone spanning 2.87 metres. This is the first of three holes drilled this year in the Phoenix zone, which also received seven holes last year.
