New York spot gold rose $21.30 to $1,418.40 on Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 0.37 point to 585.85 while the TSX Gold Index rose 3.83 points to 226.28. Most Canadian gold miners followed bullion higher today. Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TXG) led the way, adding $1.02 to $14.64 on 1.04 million shares. The company had a good second quarter, producing 113,600 ounces of gold at its ELG mine in Mexico.
Chris Taylor's Great Bear Resources Ltd. (GBR) keeps moving higher as its drills keep moving deeper within the Dixie deposit, near Red Lake in Northwestern Ontario. Great Bear added 13 cents to $4.67 on 640,000 shares on word that the latest batch of assays from the Hinge zone at Dixie yielded up to 18.09 grams of gold per tonne over 3.9 metres, beginning at a downhole depth of 416 metres. All 11 new holes hit gold, with a second hit recording 23.21 grams per tonne over three metres at a downhole depth of 276 metres.
