New York spot gold dropped $3.80 to $1,255.60 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 6.81 points to 530.20 while the TSX Gold Index dropped 1.41 points to 179.81. Most Canadian gold miners moved little today after the variability earlier this week. Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX) traded briskly, dropping 25 cents to $17.85 on 12.68 million shares, while Alacer Gold Corp. (ASR) added seven cents to $2.43 on 4.95 million shares. Kinross Gold Corp. (K) was again busy for this time of year: It added one cent to $4.22 on 26.78 million shares.
Rodrigo Barbosa and Ryan Goodman's Aura Minerals Inc. (ORA) gained one cent to $1.82 on 9,000 shares. The company's stock has been trading -- thinly most times -- near the $2 mark for the past three years, but Mr. Goodman, vice-president of legal affairs and corporate development, says that it will consolidate its shares 1:10 on Dec. 31. The move, he predicts, will allow the company to gain "greater exposure to additional institutions," investors that are not allowed or willing to trade in stocks below a certain price.
