New York spot gold gained $3.00 to $1,202.70 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 2.66 points to 705.69 while the TSX Gold Index lost 0.45 point to 157.14. Most Canadian gold miners moved little today, although decliners outnumbered gainers. Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX) lost 22 cents to $14.84 on 4.78 million shares and Centerra Gold Inc. (CG) dipped 18 cents to $5.15 on 713,000 shares. Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TXG) was strong, adding 42 cents to $11.90 on 556,000 shares.
Gregory Beischer's Millrock Resources Inc. (MRO), down one cent to 13 cents on 413,000 shares, has begun drilling at its El Picacho gold project in Sonora, Mexico. The cost of the 10-hole, 2,000-metre program is being covered by Centerra Gold. (Millrock acquired El Picacho in early 2017 and Centerra included it in a joint venture arrangement between the two companies, through which Centerra can earn an 80-per-cent interest by spending $2-million on exploration.)
