The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Friday was a mediocre 60-70-131. The TSX Venture Exchange gained four points to 762 while polished diamond prices fell 0.2 per cent. Patrick Power's Arctic Star Exploration Corp. (ADD) lost one-half cent to 18.5 cents on 376,000 shares. The company has a new diamond prospect in Finland and an old rare earth prospect in British Columbia that are seeing work this year.
Dominion Diamond Corp. (DDC) lost eight cents to $17.85 on 572,000 shares. The company, without a chief executive officer since Brendan Bell resigned effective June 30, will have a new head once the company's takeover by Dennis Washington's privately-owned Washington Group closes later this year. Patrick Evans, president and CEO of Mountain Province Diamonds Inc. (MPVD: $4.63) from 2005 until he and the company "reached a mutual decision" in June that he would resign, has joined the Washington Group and he will be taking over as CEO of Dominion upon closing of Washington's $1.2-billion (U.S.) cash takeover, expected this fall upon a two-thirds approval by shareholders.
